Adulthood (n.)

- The proverbial brick that hits you when you reach your twenties, very often leaving you floundering in a pool of where-the-fuck-did-time-go.
- The sinking feeling that starts to descend approximately around the time you see people you went to school with start to get married and having a kid. Or two. Chancing upon photos of their weddings and marriage life on Facebook might result in hyperventilation, shock and denial, and the occasional envy.
- The realisation that nags at you when you look through old photo albums and try to grasp that you are fast hitting the age your parents were in the photos.
- The dark, and often exaggerated, period you go through trying your ultimate best to romanticise the last wisps of youth, in an attempt to prolong the wonder years while blocking out all mention of a dreadfully near future: of golden eyed friends, wild and care free, staying up till 3am roaming the empty streets hand in hand, oblivious to the looming future of getting a flat, meeting the in-laws, finding a financially stable yet emotionally fulfilling job and attending Parent Teacher Conferences.
